As you may or may not know (or be excited about), Furry Weekend Atlanta is less than a month away! I’m going to be there, and to celebrate I’m opening up pre-orders for a ***CON-EXCLUSIVE BADGE STYLE*** that will only be available for this one convention before going back into the Ian Jay Commission Works vault… FOREVER!
HEART BADGES are striking four-by-six-inch likenesses of YOUR PERSONAL CHARACTER holding up a candy heart with a phrase of YOUR PERSONAL CHOOSING. If you could have anything inscribed on a candy heart, what would it be? FREE HUGS? BUTT HECK? GAMER FUEL? It’s up to YOU (unless you really, absolutely can’t think of anything, in which case I’ll come up with something). Each is inked, shaded with watercolors, and laminated to protect your piece against the HARSH, HARSH ELEMENTS.
Heart badges cost $25 for pick-up at the con, $27 if you want yours mailed to you. I’m starting by opening ten pre-order slots, so if you’d like to buy one, drop me a line at ianjaycommissions@gmail.com! (Also, if these totally don’t interest you and you want to pre-order one of my other badge styles— Hi-C, Long, Gilded or Yearbook— you can do that, too! Just let me know.)
Special thanks to TD, Kris, Sigil, Hank and (unwittingly) Mad for letting me borrow their characters to use for these sample badges.

NEW FROM IAN JAY COMMISSION WORKSHOP: Fresh from the photo studio and geared to premiere for Midwest Furfest 2012, here are our YEARBOOK BADGES! Finally, wonder no more what your character (probably) looked like during their formative high school years. Cherish the memories of days gone by with a Yearbook Badge… or get your friends to sign it and cherish the memories of TODAY! (H.A.G.S., 2 Friends + 2 Gether = 4 Ever, I Am Writing This In Your Crack, etcetera.)
These will be sale for $25 at MFF, but I’m taking six pre-order slots right now! Hit me up at my commission e-mail account at ianjaycommissions [at] gmail [dot] com if you’re interested in one.

spookdog2000:

And here’s the three in one photoset. I’ll print these out, laminate and mail them within the next day or two.

I’ve still got slots left on my commission list for Glitch badges or any of my other cool badge designs! If you want one, hit me up at my commission e-mail at ianjaycommissions [at] gmail [dot] com, or just drop me an ask

Reblogging on my art blog. If you’re gonna hit up a convention full of people wearing badges, why wear one that looks the same as any other? IAN JAY BADGES: wearable art that makes a STATEMENT. (The statement being “I AM A SUPER COOL PERSON.”)

spookdog2000:

another datamosh badge, this time of Partydog’s character Dildom Andes. I feel like this one is a lot more successful than last night’s attempt for several reasons:
production time: 1 hour, 15 minutes. a lot more reasonable.
line art is a lot more defined against the colored background. might take away a little from its “glitchiness” but definitely enhances readability.
color scheme is a lot more streamlined. character has one or two “highlight” colors that define his shape through all the digital crud. not as many weird “accents” cluttering the composition.
finished picture is completed and PRINTED at 72 dpi, which runs against every one of my production instincts but which keeps production time down and makes “glitchy bits” a lot easier to pull out.
i will probably go back and rework puppytube’s badge once i do a couple more of these, unless he’s really attached to how it is now. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? would you buy one of these??

I’VE BEEN MAKING SOME WEIRD BADGES. Take a look at the other two i made last night:

Too cool? Too weird? Too unmarketable? What do you think?

Some badge commission homework I had left over from AC, documented here for posterity, EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT USUALLY DOCUMENT BADGES. I prefer to let them float out of my hands and into the ether after finishing them, like a message in a bottle or a plastic 45-rpm record tied to a balloon. It feels more poetic somehow.
From left to right (links go to FA pages because I don’t know if these people use Tumblr or not): Ezra Starscale, Dungeon Master, and three cyborg jackal characters thought up by Gypsywitch and commissioned by Sneakyferret. (They have real costumes for said characters, too, which look pretty cool.)
If YOU want a badge like this, drop me an ask, or an e-mail. Hi-C’s (the black and white ones) are $25, while Gildeds (the gold ones) are $30. YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE AN ANIMAL PERSON CHARACTER TO GET ONE. I’VE DRAWN BADGES WITH REGULAR PEOPLE AND ROBOTS AND STUFF TOO. IT’S COOL. I can whip these out pretty fast, so consider my commission list open until further notice.

surfdog2000:

Okay, six example badges finished. I might do more later, but for now, six should work fine. I’m calling their style “Gilded”, and HERE IS THE OFFICIAL AD FOR THEM.
ALSO: it’s a bummer that scanning these doesn’t allow you to see the coolest part of these badges: the subtly reflective gold ink wash that serves as a backdrop for these characters. It’s a really unique effect that I hope customers will dig. AT THE VERY LEAST, you can check the cool inkwork and the variety of different species, outfits and expressions I can draw ON DEMAND. No cookie-cutter badges here!
IF YOU WANT ONE OF THESE FOR ANTHROCON, or if you just want one for shits ‘n’ giggles, drop me a line or an ask and we can sort something out. (Which hey, by the way: What are your opinions on the price point? Too low? Too high? These are kind of a pain in the ass to make, actually, so maybe not too high, but too low?) I do animal people, I do monster people, I do robot people… hell, I even do people people. Whatever your tastes, I will do my very best to make your jaw drop.
(THESE CHARACTERS BELONG TO akumyo, lamezone, puppytube, thegoodsonisbad, dragonmaw, and technicolorpie, respectively.)

Reblogging to preserve in my art blog, like a bug trapped in amber.
