IANJAY.NET is revamped and redesigned! I’m planning on using it as a hub for my comic operations. I still have to sort out some of the stuff on the portfolio page and re-upload the rest of the Epiphany archive, but for the most part we’re good to go for SPX. Head on over and take a peek!
Commission finished for Alteq. He wanted a full-size commission in the style of the glitch badges I did earlier this year, and I was only too happy to comply. Watch out!
Little sketch trade I did with Boobun over Twitter yesterday. Everyone knows cartoon animals and banjos go together like peanut butter and jelly.
Hey guys! SO HERE’S SOMETHING I DIDN’T EXPECT: Within only a few days of posting the Cryptozoology For Dumbasses call for entries, I’ve been so inundated with people asking to participate that I’ve FILLED all of the spots on the roster— even AFTER adding five NEW cryptids to bring the master post up to a grand total of 30! With so many entries by so many awesome artists, one thing I can guarantee is that this Chessmaster installment is going to be WICKED BEEFY with COOL ART and INEXPLICABLE MYSTERIES.
If you still want in, you can contact me and I’ll put you on the waiting list, but at this point there are already several people on it and I can’t make any promises. HOWEVER! I do plan on doing another Chessmaster Guide late next spring, so if you don’t get in this time around you can try again next time. No worries!
More updates as they come! Stay tuned!
PS: For those curious: the new cryptids on the list are Spring-Heeled Jack, the Burrunjor, the Hodag, the Ningen, and the Fiji Mermaid. Also, on the original post I put up I had Kraken on the list twice for some reason, which was a typo; one of them was supposed to be Lizard People, but i got someone to do that one, so no worries.
We’re moving servers and overhauling the website design! Our store will still be open at http://ianjaysupercomics.bigcartel.com, however.
Keep your eyes peeled for more news on the new and improved creative hub for all things Ian Jay! (As weird and self-obsessed as that sounds, it’s sort of what I’m aiming for the new site to be. It’ll be cooler than I’m probably right now! Trust me!)
LATE NIGHT IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT! I’m going to reblog this at a more civil time tomorrow, but whatever. I’m doing a new Abraxas Chessmaster zine, everyone!
While the last Chessmaster Guide focused on the spiritual qualities of well-known animals, this one will focus on unconfirmed ones— those compelling creatures that tread the line between imagination and discovery, between the factual and the fantastic. This time around, cryptids are the name of the game, and we’ve got an all-star list of them! (See the list, pictured above.)
IF YOU’D LIKE TO DRAW AN ILLUSTRATION FOR THIS ISSUE, please send:
- a couple examples of your work
- your top three choices for which cryptid you’d like to draw
- an e-mail address I can reach you at
…in an e-mail to email@example.com by Sept. 15th.
This invitation is open to both newcomers AND artists who participated in the last issue. Submissions should be six by nine inches, 300DPI resolution, and can be in color or in black and white. They can be as simple or as complex as you’d like— just get them in to me by October 20th and it’s all good.
The finished zine will be released digitally on a pay-what-you-want model, with all profits split evenly between participating creators. A very limited VHS-case print run may or may not also be in the works (depending on whether I can print them for cheaper than “stupid balls expensive”, like they were last time).
I’m very excited to work on a Chessmaster project again! My third eye is still bleary and bloodshot from having just been cracked open after a long rest. Our last issue was a showcase jam-packed with incredible art, and I think we can make this issue even cooler. Join me as we once again voyage into the ABYSS OF ULTIMATE KNOWLEDGE together!!
REBLOGGING ON THE ART BLOG, because hey, important!
This week, along with commissions, I’ve been working on redesigning my website. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do for a while now, and with SPX around the corner I figured now is the most opportune time to do it. Here are some of the assets I’ll use: the main page’s banner and the improved damask pattern for the background. Expect another big notice to go up when the new site goes live!
Weird doodle I did yesterday. Some kind of alien murder kangaroo? Idk, it’s just been a while since I’ve played around with brush pens.
